Can I Have Your BEST Advice, Please?

I have a job interview soon...I haven't had a ';real'; job in several years (been a stay-at-home mom) and I'm reeeaaalllly nervous...

What is your best advice on getting the job?

(Besides wearing a low-cut blouse! ;-)Can I Have Your BEST Advice, Please?
Believe it or not, you have the leg up since you have experience at being an independant, self sustaining, able to make quick decisions, organize your time and still have a moment to think just because you were a MOTHER!! It is a true benefit being a mother when interviewing since most of the people doing the interview are mothers themselves or are married and have a wife at home raising the children and recognize the importance of mothering.

Be yourself and let your inner beauty and confidence shine and you will be in serious contention for whatever job you decide you want.

GO GET 'EM, TIGER!! YOU CAN DO IT!!

(the low cut blouse doesn't hurt either! hahah JK)

Sandy :O)Can I Have Your BEST Advice, Please?
I wouldn't mention Yahoo! Answers if I were you...
Relax! Being calm, being truthful, and being yourself will be the best thing for you.
It's always best to bring up potential negatives at the start of an interview, so that you can play off of them before the interviewer has a concern. If you seem like you are trying to conceal the fact that you've been without a job for the last while, that's major points against you.

Make sure they know that were being a stay-at-home mom as well. That's definitely a job, although unpaid.
The low-cut blouse will ensure that you DON';T get the job.

The only ';assets'; you should be displaying for this interview are your skills and experience in being able to handle the job you have applied for.
Self confidence
Lie. Get friends to give you refs.
Whatever you do just be yourself.
smile the whole time, not just when you leave. tell stories that will make them remember you. just be personable and friendly. then maybe a day or two later, call and thank them for the oppertunity. thats a big part.
Prepare and practice your 2 minute drill where you summarize your experience and qualifications.

Say you spend all your time on 'Yahoo', neglect the husband %26amp; ignore the housework..

(And a low-cut blouse cant hurt...;-)
well i never really had a job but good luck. heres a star if ya like ma hat have 2
Be there on time or even 15 minutes earlier. Smile, shake hands. Be friendly. Dress nice. Not too much perfume. Get yourself a resume to take with you. Have a perky positive answer for every question. Dont act overly nervous. Good luck to you. Hope you get the job.
Ahh! Well I have never been in that place with having been out for a little while for that reason and everything. I am just REALLY shy! I actually just had an interview this past week at a bank and I was SO stinkin nervous I was like I just don't wanna do it! My mom always told me though just to remember that it is to THIER benefit having you there working for them! I do not have lots of confidence so I just fake it :-) I act confident and it works! Put yourself out of that shell! Don't be too confident, but ya know! They are people JUST LIKE YOU! I always feel stupid for some reason when I have an interview and I just remind myself that everyone there had to go through an interview at some point! Just have confidence and remember that you are great!
be professional

find out about the company you are intervewing with before you go

check out monster. com before you go, they have some great interviewing tips!!

good luck
be casual, see them as a friend and not an employer
Being genuine and composed. Personality counts for a lot and they look to see if the person is self-confident. Good luck!
Hahaha!! Well, remember that no one else knows you are nervous. Be poised and you will look confident.
Clarity and concisement. Speak up and don't ramble. And preach safety. Be self-confident without being arrogant.
don't wear a low cut blouse.

I'm a job intervewer I know what i would write down about you
Don't boast, just brown-nose. That's the suggestion of researchers who studied effective job-hunting tactics.

The research suggests social proficiency is sometimes more valuable than job skills when seeking a position.

';Kissing up, being nice and agreeing more than disagreeing do seem to be effective tactics for people to use when looking for a job,'; said Timothy Judge, a University of Florida management professor who conducted the research. ';This approach succeeds because it leads recruiters and interviewers to believe the applicant will fit into the organization.';

Judge and Chad Higgins, a University of Washington management professor, studied 116 undergraduate students who were interviewed for jobs through the college placement service. The applicants later filled out surveys gauging their use of ingratiatory and self-promotion tactics. Recruiters were asked which applicants they were most likely to recommend for hire.

The results showed a strong relationship between the use of ingratiating behaviors and favorable attitudes on the part of recruiters, but self-promotion techniques had no effect, Judge said.

The results were published recently in the Journal of Applied Psychology.

';Judge's paper is a well-conducted study that gives insight into the fact that it is more useful to compliment others than it is to compliment ourselves,'; said Daniel Cable, professor of management and organizational behavior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, who has studied the job choice process for nearly a decade.

';On the other hand,'; Cable said, ';agreeing outwardly with an interviewer when you really disagree could wind you up with a job where you don't really fit the culture of the organization.';
I am in the same bout myself, except for the Mom bit. My advice would be to go on the net, and get as much info about the company you are applying to, and have a list of questions prepared. This shows you are organized and have done your research. Also high heels, and red lipstick wouldn't hurt. Ha.
confidence.....that's it....EVERYTHING else will fall into place
don't wear a low cut blouse! Look in the cosmo mag. and get ideas... this months issue has some great tips on how to mix and match clothes in a good way.

I am a stay at home mom and I invi you at the moment..

you'll do fine, good luck.
Be yourself, don't act like someone you are not. Don't accept a job where you can't be yourself. Everything else is on your paperwork and the boss. Goodluck. Don't be nervous, your going to say well, that was nothing when it said and done.
First of all, think to yourself what common things you do that can associate you to other people. Movies. Books. Love of food, etc.

Next, be observant. When you go into an office, look around and see what the person has on their desk, walls, etc. Maybe they have a signed poster from a movie you know. Or maybe a picture of their child. Make a connection with the person who is interviewing you: ';You are a fan of that movie? Wow, and that poster is signed!'; or ';Is that your son? I can't wait 'til mine get that age!';

If there is nothing there, open up a dialog about one of the things you decided on: ';I am so starving! Do you know of a good place to eat? Oh! I love that type of food!';

When you can start a rapport with your interviewer, you will stand out more than the other applicants and they will tend to ';like'; you more for the job because they can picture themselves working with you.
yep being your self is the best

good luck being a stay at home dad for 7years i know how you feel

but wear the low cut blouse anyways it couldn't hurt unless you interview with a woman
dont wear too much makeup, be showered, be yourself, have nice breath, be well educated in the buisnesses backround information, be flexible with time schedule(working hours), be personable, be on time for the interview, and goodluck *hugz*
Just be yourself, show confidence %26amp; don't mumble when talking!
