What is one piece of advice that was one of the best?

What is one piece of advice that was one of the best you鈥檝e ever received?What is one piece of advice that was one of the best?
You really only get one shot at this life. There's no point standing at the pearly gates saying 'what if...' or 'I wish I...'. Take your chances to be happy, if it fails try again, try make the best life for yourself and you'll die knowing you've done the most you can -x-What is one piece of advice that was one of the best?
If you find it difficult to decide whether or not an action is RiGHT. Ask yourself would my mother wish me to do this?

If the answer is, no, then don't do it.

OK I see the flaws in it but I still think it is good general advice, which came to me years apart from a Teacher I can not remember the context and a Priest of the Church of Rome during a general conversation
Well, one thing I heard someone say that really rang true for me was, ';Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.'; It's true. And so many people don't realize it.
My Mother's uncle told her this one- and my mother in turn told this one to me when I was younger and didn't like brushing my teeth~~~~ Be true to your teeth, or they shall be false to you!
Leave other peoples business and mind my own.
so simple but so true..if in doubt leave it out..i make every decision by that rule
treat others as you would wish to be treated
MY DAD TOLD ME AT AGE 13, WHEN IT CAME TO DATING THIS BIT OF ADVICE ''IF YOU CAN'T BRING IT HOME, YOU BETTER LEAVE IT ALONE'', THAT IS IT IN A NUTSHELL.
Don't p1ss into the wind
On my 18th my mother said to me she brought me up as she thought best, I did not always like the discipline, but now I was 18 and I could do what I please. Then she said, I just give you one piece of advise. ';Never sh.t on your own doorstep.';

I had never heard my mother swear ever before that. I just killed myself laughing
';don't let anybody make you doubt you or tell you who you are';

oh yeah and 'never EVER take drugs' and i never have
Never take what you have for granted.
never eat yellow snow
If you don't take the first drink , you can't get drunk
The best piece of advice I ever got was ';duck,';

The guy behind me got shot instead.
when you've made a decision - stick with it. even if you can do something - tell urslef u can't.

that way ur not going back on urslef all the time.
Davy Crockett said it...';Be sure you're right and then go ahead!';
Neither a borrower or a lender be....... good advice from my Mother
As a girl at school my mum always said '; don't say my friends, your friend is your book. )
if thye talk about everyone else they are talking about you to everyone also.
always be urself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol
IF you can keep your head when all about you

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,

Or being hated, don't give way to hating,

And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;

If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster

And treat those two impostors just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken

Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,

And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings

And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,

And lose, and start again at your beginnings

And never breathe a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew

To serve your turn long after they are gone,

And so hold on when there is nothing in you

Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,

' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,

if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,

If all men count with you, but none too much;

If you can fill the unforgiving minute

With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,

Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,

And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

PS- not be sexist (man or woman applies)

I was given this poem by grandad when he was dying from cancer. I was a young boy and it made an impression I try to live according to the if rule.
To me keep my own secrets and get other peoples out.
Work to live, don't live to work.
